Spotting Strategy in Action using Overdrive
Another organization that I follow on LinkedIn is Overdrive. Overdrive is the digital library company who has the Libby app and the Kanopy app. They do not have consistent postings. Most of the time they seem to post only once a week. However, in reviewing their posts for this blog assignment I found that they have actually been busy the past four days. Here is a brief description of those four posts:
4 days ago: A reposting about having an information booth at the London Libraries Conference (originally posted by the London Libraries account)
3 days ago: Announcement with a hashtag #Batman Day, and very nice graphic of a batman book overlaid on a cartoon picture of Gotham City, to tell libraries that all Gotham's Greatest Reads are on sale for libraries to add to their digital collections.
1 day ago: Announcement with two hashtags in the description #Libbyapp and #TylerChilders. The announcement is that Grammy-nominated artist Tyler Childers has teamed up with Overdrive to launch the Hickman Holler Reading club - a new way to bring books, music and libraries together. The post includes a hyperlink that goes to a special page on Libby.com showing the first picks for this reading club. Excellent graphic on the post.
Today: Announcement with the hashtag #BigMovieWatch to promote the free streaming of The Love Punch for a limited time on Kanopy for library patrons. The posting includes a hyperlink to go to the movie page. Once again, excellent graphic on the post. The disappointing part of this post is that the free streaming offer for this film is September 19 - 28, and today's date is September 23rd.
Overall, the posts on the Overdrive LinkedIn social media account do seem to be connected to a larger goal, that being to bring awareness to their product offerings. Their postings are generally perfect for the LinkedIn platform. They use eye catching graphics - short descriptions with hashtags and when appropriate include hyperlinks. When I scroll through my LinkedIn feed, I go fairly quickly as I am sure most people do on that platform. That is why I think their posts are very good. I know what they are promoting very quickly because their messaging is so clear. I just feel that they need more consistency in the timing of the posts. Maybe after I receive my MS in Information and Library Science I might see if they would like to hire me to be their LinkedIn social media manager. I am sure after I finish my Content Calendar assignment, I will be an expert. #BigSmile
